Extinct Goblin Shark of New Jersey

The Goblin Shark, Scapanorhynchus  texanus, was a shark that lived in the waters that covered New Jersey during the Late Cretaceous Period. Fossil teeth can be found from outcrops of the Navesink Formation.  It was a medium sized shark that reached about 10 feet in length and fed on fish and invertebrates with awl shaped teeth.Scapanorhynchus-599x176
